Laver & Wood Club of the month: Knights Cricket Club & ISU

Established: 1999

Established in 1999, the Knights Cricket Club was the first of its kind in the state of Iowa. It later founded the Cricket League of Iowa in 2004. The Knights were back to back champions of the CLIA in 2004 and 2005 (12-0 - perfect season). Since 2001, KCC has earned a reputation as the team to beat in the league.

The Knights also conduct their
"Hit Homelessness for a SIx" charity event every year. They raise funds for the West Des Moines Human Services Department. Last year, they also raised funds for the "Des Moines for Darfur" a local grass-roots non-profit group, which works to raise awareness about the terrible genocide in Darfur, Sudan.

The Knights also conduct free coaching clinics throughout the season to anyone who wants to learn the game.

Laver & Wood has played a huge role in our success since 2002. James Laver's masterpieces, which are customized to our heavy outfields and low to mid bounce concrete tracks, have helped our batters no end. They are such a hit in our league that this year, the Iowa State University Spartans & Warriors have also adopted Laver & Wood as their official bat maker, and other teams are well on their way.

Iowa State Cricket Club (ISUCC) was founded in 2001 and since then it has been growing continuously. The main objectives of the club are to promote the game of CRICKET among students, faculty and staff of ISU and to provide necessary facilities and infrastructure for playing the game. We organize regular tournaments throughout the year. Every year three tape ball tournaments are organized with several teams participating from Iowa State University-Ames, Drake University-Des Moines, University of Omaha-Omaha. Since 2001 Iowa State team has been regularly participating in leather ball tournament organized by Cricket League of Iowa, CLIA. The club is always trying to increase the number of tournaments both tape ball and leather ball, to increase the active participation of members in the club.

The club has played a major role in the popularization of the game and the members have been growing continuously.

On 1st May 2005, the newly constructed cricket pitch was inaugurated. Cricket club has also been awarded as the Best Club of the year, among 40 clubs present at Iowa State, for year 2002-2003 and 2004-2005. Every year elections are held to elect the working committee for coming year. All ISU students are eligible for membership, and there is membership due per year, which is used to fund various activities of the club throughout the year.

Prior to this year, we spent precious funds to buy low quality bats which didn't last. Since we are only less than 30% funded by the university, and since we are all full-time students, James Laver worked with us in providing some of the best customized bats we have EVER played with, for an incredible price. We are SOLD on Laver & Wood: for their bats, and more importantly, their customer service.

A BIG THANK YOU from all of us to James Laver at Laver & Wood.
