Heritage - Women's Bats
Laver & Wood encourage women cricketers' to be particular about the type of bat they use. The right bat can make a huge difference in your ability to middle the ball and get value for shots. Reality means that many women cricketers are shorter and lighter than their male counterparts. This suggests they should be using a smaller, lighter bat - a bat that allows them to play the shots they want to with sound technique. A heavier bat does not always mean that the ball will go further due to it being much harder to time the ball and play your shots. Lighter and well-balanced bats mean a faster bat speed; tiredness does not set in so quickly when spending a long time at the crease.

The current selection of bats off the shelf does not lend itself to use by women cricketers. It is difficult to get a bat that is shorter than usual in length that is still of the highest-grade willow.
We have seen many women cricketers with bats that suit their style - light and short, but they are not getting maximum value for their shots due to a low grade willow being used. It is not unusual for a top woman cricketer who is short to use a harrow - but finding a harrow made from top grade willow with a good middle is difficult.
Without high-grade willow it is difficult to bat with correct technique and regularly reach the boundary. And a harrow will often not carry quite as much weight as a woman can easily handle, meaning the ball does not leave the bat traveling as fast as it could have.
By careful attention during the bat making process, Laver & Wood can produce a bat that carries as much weight as you can comfortably use. By making the bat with perfect balance and a great middle you will retain your full range of shots with sound technique.
James Laver tentatively recommends the following size for the average woman cricketer. This MUST be seen as a guide only, as women vary in size, strength and bat preference, so this will not suit all women cricketers.
Total Length: 33" (83.8cm)
Blade Length: 21½" (54.5cm)
Blade Width: 4¼" (10.8cm) max legal width.
Bat weight should be in the region of 2lbs 4ozs - 2lbs 6ozs.
Bat sizes and weights do, of course vary with your own requirements and depend largely on your height.
For details of the bat that will best suit your game please email James.
We can make bats from either the Private Bin, Heritage or CARBO range to your specifications. If you are serious about your game we strongly recommend having a bat made to your requirements. This bat will allow you to play to your full potential.
The standard Women's size detailed above is also the same as a small men's size. For the pricing please look at the small men's price in each category.
