The CARBO^© - 2008 CARBOCANE HANDLE TECHNOLOGY

We have had numerous requests for a bat that fulfils the cricketer who wants a bat that is going to keep its performance longer than usual.  The CARBO bat is one that is designed to give the extra power down low in the blade whilst maintaining an even balance. We make the bat with a slight, curve or just plain straight blade. The point of the curved blade is that it gives one extra lift in the shot to help with lofting the ball over the fielders. The curve also helps with the balance of the bat making it feel lighter. This is particularly helpful on artificial wickets where the ball does not come on to the bat.
James Laver designed and made the CARBOCANE handle in 2002 in order to offer a better handle to L&W customers. He has used several different designs since then and now has released the latest version for May 2008. We have changed the design of the handle to comply with the new laws being released by the MCC which require no more than 10% of materials other than cane, wood or twine to be used in the construction of the handle and such materials not projecting more than 8.26 cm into the lower portion of the handle.
The CARBOCANE handle is a unique feature. A carbon / S-Glass tube is inserted down 75mm into the top of the handle to help the handle retain its stiffness and strength for a longer period of time whilst staying well within the new 2008 cricket laws. This helps to make the bat retain power after substantial use. A standard traditional cane handle tends to become quite flexible after a short period of use, resulting in a decrease in power.
We are also researching the use of different timbers in the handle construction due to current cricket bat handle cane being harvested from rain forests and not replanted thus depleting the world’s natural resource over time.
One must remember that the curved blade is not suitable for every player's game. It can some times encourage one to hit too often in the air hence getting caught out. If you are a positive player that likes to hit over the top (especially US players) then this is quite likely the choice of bat for you.

Please note that we make the CARBO bats with the CARBOCANE handle which come in the Grade's: Carbo Firefly (Grade 1) Carbo Comet (Grade 2) and Carbo Churchill (Grade 3).

The CARBO bat comes in sizes ranging from a Youth  size 6 through to a 1" Longer blade and handle. In a youth size we would only make a slight curve in the blade because an extreme curve can harm your game development at this stage.
Generally the profile of the CARBO bat is the special profile and this shape tends to give a very subtle bow to the blade as well. The CARBOCANE© Handle gives a little more stiffness without the usual vibration expected with this kind of handle which helps increase the power in the shot. We can make the CARBO bat in any of the profiles requested.
